Bagan – a temple-filled plain, bordered by the Irrawaddy River and ringed by jagged mountains – is regarded as the premier tourist destination in Myanmar.
Nobody is really sure of the specific numbers, but an estimated 2000, 1000 year-old temples dot this 42 square-kilometre plain. As such, comparisons with the mighty temples of nearby Cambodia are inevitable, so how does Bagan’s best fare against the likes of Ta Prohm and Angkor Wat? And how does the Siem Reap (the tourist hub for exploring the temples in Cambodia) equivalent Nyuang Oo shape up?
